As you know, I have four boys, my first three are not vegan. I remember after my 3rd I kept saying he will be a vegan just like his mommy. Well, that didn't last long as his papa started introducing him to different types of meat and dairy from early. So I have made a concerted effort to ensure my last son who is fondly called, 'Mama's Raja' continue with healthy eating habits. Have you ever realized when our kids are young we give them the absolute best start in living a healthy lifestyle and as they mature we start feeding them junk food? I believe feeding children a healthy vegan diet with touches of raw-somely good food provides them with an enormous amount of benefits that they simply couldn't get from standard American kid foods. Unlike candy and highly processed snacks, eating vegan foods provide all the micronutrients they need to support a healthy growing body.

Mama Raja, was founded in hopes to inspire parents and caretakers to make delicious and nutritious homemade baby food – to help provide your babies with the absolute best start in life.  After all, healthy eating habits take a lifetime to develop and it’s best to start from day one. Join Mama and Raja on our growing up healthy, happy and holistic journey.

Today's recipe features fresh, all-natural, vitamin-rich ingredients.  It is delicious and full of vibrant, beautiful colors.

Why do you make your own baby food?
I've  decided to make my own baby food because I want to provide Raja with the freshest foods possible.
If you would like to start this also, please remember before beginning a solid food regimen, keep in mind that breast milk or formula should remain the primary nutrition source for the first year. In the beginning, solids are more about exploration than subsistence. Babies are introduced to new tastes and exciting textures all while honing tactile and social skills associated with mealtime.

I believe it's important to pay close attention to your baby’s cues before beginning a solid regimen, after he is at least four months old.  Research shows that introducing solids any earlier could lead to food allergies, obesity and diabetes.

Your baby might be ready for solids if he/she

Sits up alone, without assistance
Consistently seems hungry after a full feeding
Shows interest in or grabs at your food
Can refuse food by turning head
Has outgrown reflex to spit out solid food

I recommend introducing one food at a time, I usually wait at least one week (7 days) before introducing another food. Watch closely for adverse reactions such as excessive gas, diarrhea, vomiting or a rash. If there is a reaction, discontinue food and wait at least 2 more weeks before reintroducing the food.

ALWAYS consult your pediatrician prior to beginning any new food for your infant. Discuss making homemade baby food with your pediatrician.
