I know a lot of people who absolutely refuse to DIY (Do It Yourself). They don’t have the time, there’s too much cleanup, it’s too complicated. While all statements can be true about DIY beauty, there are plenty of recipes that take no time at all, aren’t messy and are easy to make. Not to mention the fact that there is something incredibly satisfying about whipping up your own body scrub or massage oils at home. Plus its healthy!
Here I am, getting ready to do a DIY facial treatment. (and I really needed it too, the past week my daily planner was packed to capacity, every hour on the hour I had something planned to get done) .
To get DIY beauty right, there are a few things you should consider;
1. To obtain maximum benefit from a facial application it needs to be applied to a freshly cleansed face; left on for 10-20 minutes; as you gently remove the mask the top layer of dead skin cells (which cause our complexions to look dull) is whisked away, exposing younger, healthier skin. Leaving your face with a brighter looking complexion. regular facial masks can also help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
2. Take the time to enjoy the process; relax and even if for only a few brief moments escape the stress of the day. Let everyone in house know that you will be unavailable for at least 30-40 minutes.
Now for the recipe;
Rose & Aloe Vera Facial Mask.
This mask is good for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.
This mask is good for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.
1 1/2 teaspoons French green clay
1/2 teaspoon Bentonite clay
5 teaspoons aloe vera gel
3 teaspoons pure distilled rosewater
1 drop rose essential oil
Mix the French green clay and bentonite clay together. In a seperate bowl mix the aloe and rosewater together. Add the aloe/rosewater mixture slowly to the clay mixture stirring until all the lumps are gone. Then add the rose essential oil and blend together.
Apply the mask to your face and neck (avoiding the eye area) and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing clean.
Why the chosen ingredients?
Aloe Vera - Is very gentle on dry and cracked skin, and helps keep it soft and smooth, whilst seeming to provide some very effective anti-aging properties. Aloe Vera has shown that it can be very effective in slowing down the signs of aging by providing the body with vital antioxidants.
Roses/Rose water - rose water makes an excellent toner. Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties. Rose water thus, helps cleaning up the clogged pores, of oil and dirt, which are the basic reason for acne and pimples. The cleansing property of rose water leads to a healthy skin.
Bentonite Clay - This clay is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays used to treat both internal and external maladies.
French green clay - its toning action stimulates the skin by bringing fresh blood to damaged skin cells, revitalizing the complexion, and tightening pores.
I forgot to take a pic of me with the mask on but here is one of me a few hours after using the mask. Result: positively glowing skin!
